Stone Type
slate
Tympanum
face with ornamentation
Border
A two line medium width border covers the top of the tympanum. The border continues on past the stone's shoulders but at less than 50% of its previous width. There are side panels to the left and right of the tablet section.
Remark
The central image of the face takes up 85% of the tympanum. There are multipoint edges on the left and right and while they could represent the sky overhead, along with the marks above the head, they could also be seen as precursors to the stage curtains to which the tympanum will evolve. Humanism is creeping into the face with a chin, detailed eyes, an inaccurate but more realistic nose, and the wild hair. As this child died young, one can assume his hair was curly. The neck and shoulders are generic. The side panels have deteriorated but appear to be illustrated with undulating shapes.
Physical Status
straight cracked
Intelligibility
broken images or writing
Biological Contaminants
